So many blog posts popping up, giving people advice on how to better their own blog or a website. Makes me wonder if the ones sparing great advice are not just using it to attract more traffic to their own "creations". Why else would they want to share a secret that is creating huge audiences for them and makes tons of money? Giving back to the community, maybe. It is just that most of the time the advice the disseminate as "great" is outright trivial and reminds me of those financial pyramid schemes: you build up a hierarchy of newbies who will drool at your wisdom, meanwhile collecting free hits. And who knows, maybe someone will by your "How to have a successful blog" revealing book.
You newbies have to stop reading this nonsense. Have your own head, or better go to a forum where people give advice which does not directly benefit their own interests. True, forums are polluted too as every second post is a poorly covered attempt of self promotion. And then, somebody is running the forum too and there are ads there - making money! It 's all crooked!

And what might such a forum

Might be not a bad idea! After all this site get some money from ads too (couple bucks a year
IMHO there isn't much one can do to promote their blog for free. An extremely original idea is one thing that helps, i guess. Otherwise, it is nice to find the right "reader base".
Take this website, for instance, it is clearly not targeting anyone and there is no one subject. Just take a look at the tag cloud, it's a mess!
If you look at the top google searches evidently, a celebrity gossip or a porn site is the best money making invention ever. For those willing to go for something more creative there are still smaller, unexplored audiences. Just keep digging! Don't pay too much attention to trying to promote it.
