Consumers vs. Corporations

How credit card companies rip you off!

As I logged in to my Discover card online acconut to make a payment I noticed the usual calendar gadget missing. See, I used to schedule my payment for the last day possible, without incurring any fees (usually the 25th of the month). My reasoning was "why let them use my money for a month if I can do it myself?" right?

Today I find out that the bastards have removed the calendar to replace it with this:

How did Coca-Cola become such a huge company?

It's just a drink, it doesn't even hydrate you, it has no nutritional benefit whatsoever, if you want caffeine you could drink coffee, so why the hell is Coca-cola such a huge cash machine? Is it just down to clever marketing on their behalf that has somehow kept millions of people drinking this substandard chemical cocktail of questionable origin? Surely the novelty of carbonation has worn off, I mean we got over agent orange and thalidamyde so why does this crap continue to make a bunch of people that wouldn't care if you live or die inordinate amounts of cash?  read more »

How come there are larger coffee cups but no longer mixing straws?

Here's my daily scenario: Been a long day, so I decide to go for a medium sized cup of black goodness.  I have it with sugar, so do you , right? Sift a couple baggies in, time to mix... I get a straw and.... OH MY FUCKING GOD.... it's not long enough to reach to the bottom. So I am pinching it gently with my thumb and index, reaching as deep as I can.  In the process I burn my fucking fingers  And the coffee is not sweet And it tastes like piss I hate you sugar-mixing-straw-designer-people!  read more »

Electronic mosquito repellents don't work

One more thing found to be not working as claimed: electronic mosquito repellents that emit a high-pitched sound. A review of their use failed to find any evidence that they work. There was no difference in the number of mosquitoes on people with or without this device. Don't waste your money!

Monopolization of America

For several decades now there has been happening a chain of events in America that lead to a virtual monopoly in every sector of consumer goods and services. Perhaps it all started with the bold reliance on the Adam Smith's laws of economic self-regulation, but it certainly looks like the government has taken a back seat now. My claim is that in most business segments there is a duo- or tri-poly in USA, with two or three major companies dominating the market and having an easy time of making all sorts of illegal agreements that make them a virtual monopoly.  read more »

Fruits are not sweet anymore

How come most of the fruits that are supposed to be sweet are actually not sweet? Strawberry, kiwi, raspberry, blackberry, even watermelon are not sweet anymore. I want strawberry to be fleshy, juicy and sugary. Not firm and crispy. Same with watermelon. I have to coat strawberries in sugar because they are tasteless or sour without it. It seems that something is injected into the fruit to make it look ripe. You buy strawberry, which looks red but it tastes green. Do people get used to these tasteless fruits and stop noticing the difference?

Don't trust bagless vacuum cleaners!

I bought one, thinking it would filter out more small particles. But when it is time to clean the can (and this time is usually every time) I am dissipating vast quantities of it just by brushing the filter! So, what's the point then?!!!

Why Are Dollar Store Products Made In Canada?

I'm a frequent shopper at the Dollar Tree. Good deals can be found in a pinch: toilet paper, toothpaste, generic Advil, but, has anyone else noticed- the products stocked in these stores are almost ALL made in Canada? I have nothing against the country. However, in an age in which people struggle to pay for prescription medications, it's illegal for US residents to purchase said medications from Canada, where they are cheaper, yet, it's ok for us to buy Canadian Colgate and Toilet paper? I have a bottle of the generic advil beside me.  read more »
