Safety First? Or Don’t make my kneecaps laugh

I first hand know that many labs ignore/by-pass regulation about double-bagging bio hazard material which is to be autoclaved. Actually, in most labs this safety measure is not even mentioned to new junior employees
in charge of autoclaving (needless to say that most of the time these people are part timers with as little as one year of science related degree). I learned this regulation by being "overly anal" (as described by one of my ex-co-workers).

Wow!!! Using light for erotic touch stimulation, female orgasm simulation and male orgasm simulation!

Now how do you like that? Using light to get an orgasm? Who in their right mind wouldn't want that? Another product backed up by crappy science to sell BS to consumers! Sample videos included!

Intriguing - yes! Has anything to do with reality - NO!

On estrogen, beer and the credibility of various types of information

I was recently pointed to the harmful effects of drinking beer. A subsequent investigation has revealed a number of studies on the relation between beer consumption and high levels of estrogen (the female hormone), in particular so-called phytoestrogens.

That's ridiculous

Here is an example of ridiculous science: the study of what happens to women's voices when they fast. According to the study, when fasting, women tend to talk less and their tone of voice lowers. They also complain that it's harder to talk when you fast. Isn't it obvious that if you don't get enough calories in your diet, you may feel tired and less willing to talk?

Scientific censorship

The Fish and Wildlife Service issued a memo that makes polar bears and global warming taboo subjects in public scientific discussions (see here ). Scientists traveling abroad are required to assign a spokesperson who understands the administration's position on this topic (i.e. wouldn't say something that contradicts this position).  Bush administration is notorious for trying to shut up those who disagree.

Vigilant marijuana ban proponents

I wonder why so many people keep persisting spreading the myths about such a fine recreational drug? This page might help http://www.cs.indiana.edu/~hagerp/myths.html for those who want to learn some scientific facts.
