Microsoft

Microsoft is buying Yahoo, OMG!

Recent news reports have stated that a catastrophy is inevitable. The Redmond giant is about to devour a not-so-small fish named Yahoo. Despite a couple of initial rejections from Jerry Yang, Microsoft seems to be determined. Now, let us pause for a second to ask this question: Why should you care?

Personally, I don't use any Yahoo products, save an occasinal visit to Flickr, which, in turn, was devoured by Yahoo. I do use Windows XP and MS Office, but that is irrelevant.

So, breaking down into different market segments, what are the pros from the merger: read more »

Many emails and many identities - nobody believes you

The situation like this one is a sign of our super-technological times. Long time ago I created a hotmail account. After a while I found better ways to email, so I decided to keep hotmail just in case. It's useful to have an email to give out while shopping or registering online and let all spammers use it as they wish. read more »

So Microsoft has this cool multi-touch screen, now what? A Critical Review

As it has been reported , Microsoft is releasing a new multi-touch display. The technology beyond is really exciting, but let me point out a few implementation related concerns: 1) Why do they need the cameras? If you want to copy pictures to your wireless digicam, just place it on the table and as it connects, simply display a camera-like icon on the screen.  read more »

Bring Microsoft to justice

It has been reported today on digg and everywhere else about Microsoft cracking down on Free and Open Software with a lawsuit. They claim that Linux and the likes infringe on more than 200 of their patents and want to collect royalty! Patenting is a concept that it not so easily applied to things like computer algorithms or ideas. Richard Stallman in his talk on patents (see video) mentions that a patent office clerk gets several hours to cross-check if a new patent application infringes on already existing ones.  read more »

Windows Vista - Do Not Buy!

It really is just a very expensive face lift for XP. For the average user the noticeable pros are: a better looking (but not the best) graphical interface. Here are some cons: - Uses much more system resources, all for the better looks (more RAM, CPU and graphical card cycles). These resources could be instead used to run your Office or web-browser faster - Very expensive - Conflicts with much of the existing hardware. Requires you to buy a new system.  read more »

Windows XP boot - a dark zone

Like most of you here I have a desktop with Windows XP pro on it. I would normally have it on at all times as it serves as my file server and my answering machine and my email/IM center, etc. But every once in a while I had to reboot to get the updates through or to install some new hardware. The freaky thing was that I had to press ESC or space or some other key, during the boot or else it would freeze. Don't ask me how I figured it or how this works, all I know is that it solved my problem. So, yesterday, being a diligent geek that I am, I finally set down to debug it....  read more »

Visual Studio Intellisense - IntelliSUCKS!

Really, just kill it! I gave up on using it and so should you: rename feacp.dll and to hell with it! Your days are counted on this planet, don't waste your time on this memory eating time-wasting monster. Try using Visual Assist (or something similar).   Then, of course, you get problems with Windows Forms designer and such... life is never easy. read more »

Undead "My pictures" folder in Windows XP

Why does it rise from dead every time i kill it? I tryed googling for the solution, no use... Seems like once in a while some stupid program like WindowsMediaPlayer will decide to recreate it just there. Fuck off! This is my hard drive, I should be deciding where to have my fucking pictures! Â Same goes for My Movies or whatever.... read more »

Visual Studio 2005

This should have stayed in the Beta! So slow!!!! It used to take under a minute to build my project on .NET 2003, but on 2005 it takes around 2 to 3 minutes!
