How about decline of 0.58%, now that sounds like a number I can put to use. Half-percent ... sure, no problem! But 71.78 POINTS, what are these magical points?

Here is another one from the same day (Wall Street Journal): Nasdaq down 18.20 points, which is....about half percent as well! Ahhh... so Dow is 12397.29 and Nasdaq is 2437.43! So they have a different base, in fact all market indexes do!

So why not use percentage values? C'mon the "points" are meaningless even for people who are ok at maths, not to mention Americans
