Bathtub duckies with a hole at the bottom?

Do you remember plastic bathtub toys from when you were a child? Why all the Nemo's and duckies and sips have a hole at the bottom? In time it starts growing mold on the inside and does not look nice at all. Why is that? Couldn't they seal the whole thing? The only explanation that I find is that making the toys last not as long, they can sell more. Why else?

I think that this is done so

I think that this is done so that a kid can play in the bathtub by filling the toy up with water and then letting it drown Eye

I always figured it had

I always figured it had something to do with the way they are mass produced. They are placed on a pole of sorts and the mold fills up with the rubber in a hot state, then it's fast cooled, and plucked off the pole and into a huge box...I saw it on Mr Rogers Neighborhood, I think.

I guess we all should agree

I guess we all should agree that there must be some other way. Take tennis balls for example...
